About Graphite
What it does
Graphite is a code review platform built around stacked pull requests: instead of one large pull request, you split a change into a chain of small, dependent ones that can be reviewed and merged in order. It adds its own review interface on top of GitHub, an AI reviewer called Graphite Agent and a merge queue that understands stacks. The aim is to keep AI-generated changes small enough for a human to read.
What is inside / how it works
The gt command-line tool works alongside git to create, navigate, restack and submit stacks of branches, and a VS Code extension does the same visually. On the web, a pull request inbox shows what needs your attention and the review page tracks versions of each pull request. AI reviews run automatically on every pull request, analyse the wider codebase for context, focus on bugs rather than style, suggest fixes and learn from how your team responds; you can add custom rules and filters on paid plans. Graphite also lets you start Cursor Cloud Agents from its interface to open or update pull requests, which requires a paid Cursor plan.
Works with
Graphite is built on GitHub's APIs and requires GitHub; GitHub Enterprise Server is Enterprise-only. The GT MCP server, built into the CLI and currently in beta, lets agents such as Claude Code and Cursor create stacked pull requests themselves.
How to install or start
Sign up with GitHub, then install the CLI with Homebrew or npm and optionally connect it to Claude Code:
brew install withgraphite/tap/graphite
gt --version
claude mcp add graphite gt mcp
Pricing
At the time of writing (September 2026), the free Hobby plan covers personal repositories with limited AI reviews and chat. Starter costs $20 per user per month and Team $40 per user per month, both billed annually, with Team adding unlimited AI reviews, review customisation, automations and the merge queue. Enterprise is custom-priced. Annual billing saves 20% compared with monthly.
Who should use it
GitHub-based teams that want small, reviewable changes and a faster review loop, especially when agents generate large diffs. Teams on GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps cannot use it, and stacking takes some getting used to.
Pros
- Stacked PRs keep AI changes reviewable
- Fast review UI
Cons
- GitHub only
