About Mcp For Blender
What it does
MCP for Blender is a community-built Model Context Protocol server that gives AI assistants direct control over Blender, the 3D modeling and animation software. It enables prompt-driven 3D scene creation — an agent can create and edit objects, apply materials, inspect scene data and generate ready-to-use 3D assets, turning natural-language requests into actual Blender operations rather than just code suggestions.
What is inside / Tools it gives your agent
Tools cover object creation, modification and deletion; material application and customization; scene inspection and data retrieval; arbitrary Python code execution inside Blender's own interpreter; asset generation and import from Poly Haven, Sketchfab and Poly Pizza, plus AI 3D-generation services Hyper3D Rodin and Hunyuan3D; scene export to GLB/FBX; and lookup of Blender's node schema and API reference.
Works with
Listed as "*" for any MCP client. The README specifically documents Claude for Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, OpenCode and Antigravity.
How to install or connect
Requires Blender 3.0+, Python 3.10+, and the uv package manager. Install the addon with uvx mcp-for-blender install-addon, then point your MCP client's config at the server and enable the corresponding addon inside Blender's preferences.
Maintenance and safety
MIT licensed, created by Siddharth Ahuja as an unofficial third-party project (not affiliated with the Blender Foundation). Very actively maintained, with 29,000+ GitHub stars and frequent updates. Because it can execute arbitrary Python inside Blender and pull in third-party assets, review agent-generated scripts before running them on files you care about, especially in shared or production Blender projects.
Who should use it
3D artists, technical artists and developers who want to drive Blender modeling, texturing and scene-assembly work from an AI coding agent instead of clicking through menus by hand.
Pros
- 29,000+ GitHub stars, MIT licensed and very actively maintained
- Deep Blender control: objects, materials and scene export, plus asset generation via Poly Haven/Sketchfab/Hyper3D
- Documented with many clients: Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, OpenCode and Antigravity
Cons
- Requires Blender 3.0+, Python 3.10+ and the uv package manager to install
- Can execute arbitrary Python inside Blender, so agent-generated scripts should be reviewed before running on production files
