What is dsh-TUI?
What it does
dsh-TUI is a terminal UI plugin for DeepSeek Harness (DeepSeek's terminal coding-agent CLI). It layers a Claude Code-style interface on top of the harness: a pixel-art whale header, live work-status and TPS display, streaming "thinking" output, double-Esc time rewind, a context-usage bar, inline image previews, and in-terminal Mermaid diagram rendering.
What is inside
Session management (/resume, /home, pinning, workspace grouping), a full-screen draft editor with Vim bindings and mouse text selection, hot-swappable themes, a /skills view for DSH-discovered skills, and a companion VS Code extension that syncs editor selections into the terminal session. It mounts as a pure plugin — DSH's own agent loop, model access and persistence are untouched, and uninstalling leaves no core patches.
Works with
DeepSeek Harness (deepseek-ai/deepseek-harness) — a hard dependency, not a standalone agent. A companion dsh-tui-vscode extension is published on the VS Code Marketplace.
How to install or connect
npm install -g @deepseek-ai/dsh @deepseek-harness-tui/dsh-tui
dsh-tui
Manual alternative: sh install.sh.
Maintenance and safety
Very active (commits landing within days of review), MIT licensed, with CI. It implements no sandbox of its own and inherits whatever approval policy DSH is configured with. The README is explicit that the default Windows profile ships with an unrestricted, no-approval permission mode, and tells users to check profile settings before launching against sensitive credentials or untrusted repos.
Who should use it
DeepSeek Harness users who want a richer, Claude-Code-like terminal front end. It is not useful standalone — you need DeepSeek Harness and an API key already — and Windows users specifically should tighten the default permission profile first. It's a good match for anyone who already likes Claude Code's visual style (thinking stream, context bar, session pinning) and wishes DeepSeek's own CLI had the same polish, especially if you also want inline Mermaid diagrams and image previews without leaving the terminal, or the VS Code companion extension for jumping between editor and terminal context.

Pros
- Very actively maintained with CI, an English/Chinese README, and official recognition from DeepSeek Harness's own channel
- Rich terminal feature set: image/diagram previews (Kitty/Sixel, Mermaid), session management, VS Code companion extension, all as a zero-core-changes plugin
Cons
- Hard dependency on DeepSeek Harness plus a DeepSeek API key — it is not a standalone agent
- README explicitly warns the default Windows profile ships with an unrestricted-access permission mode, so review that setting before use
