What is Tuios?
What it does
Tuios ("Terminal UI Operating System") is a modern terminal multiplexer and window manager written in Go, built specifically around the workflow of running AI coding agents in the terminal. On top of a vim-modal tiling interface, it adds a layer purpose-built for agent supervision: it recognizes 20+ agent CLIs, tracks what each one is doing, and gives you a single inbox for approvals and messages instead of alt-tabbing between a dozen panes.
What is inside
- BSP, master-stack and scrolling tiling layouts across 9 independent workspaces
- Daemon-backed session persistence that survives terminal restarts and SSH drops
- Agent state detection for 20+ CLIs, with harness integrations for Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and opencode
- A unified Inbox that centralizes approval requests and messages from every running agent, across sessions and machines
tuios fanfor launching and driving fleets of agent instances in parallel- Kitty graphics protocol and sixel image rendering, plus a tmux compatibility shim so tools that expect tmux (like Claude Code "agent teams") work unmodified
- Vim-style copy mode and tape scripting for recording and replaying terminal workflows
Works with
Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and opencode are explicitly supported as recognized agent harnesses; any CLI agent that runs in a terminal can be tiled and tracked.
How to install or connect
brew install tuios
# or
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Gaurav-Gosain/tuios/main/install.sh | bash
Docker, go install, prebuilt binaries, Nix and AUR packages are also provided. Requires a true-color terminal; kitty graphics support is recommended for image rendering.
Maintenance and safety
Actively maintained with 2,400+ commits, 3.7k+ GitHub stars and 147 forks under the MIT license. No known security issues; as with any terminal multiplexer that grants agents remote/fleet access, review its machine-access and approval settings before pointing it at production systems.
Who should use it
Developers running multiple AI coding agents at once — solo or across a small team — who want tiling, session persistence and a single approval queue instead of juggling separate terminal windows for each agent.

Pros
- Purpose-built agent state tracking and unified inbox across many CLIs
- Session persistence survives restarts and disconnects
- Actively maintained, MIT licensed, fast-growing (3.7k+ stars)
Cons
- Best experience needs a true-color, kitty-graphics-capable terminal
- Younger project than established multiplexers like tmux/zellij
