About Linear MCP
What it does
Linear MCP is Linear's official hosted server for connecting AI agents to your Linear workspace. With it, a coding agent can find the ticket it is supposed to work on, read the details and comments, open follow-up issues for anything it finds, and update status or leave a comment when it is done. You do not have to switch between your editor and the issue tracker. Linear hosts the server, so there is nothing to install beyond a line of client config. During 2026 Linear added support for initiatives, project milestones and status updates, which makes it useful for product planning as well as day-to-day issue work.
Tools it gives your agent

Works with
It is a remote server using Streamable HTTP at https://mcp.linear.app/mcp. The older SSE endpoint is deprecated. Linear's docs have setup steps for Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Jules, v0, Windsurf and Zed, and any other client that supports remote MCP servers can connect the same way.
How to connect
claude mcp add --transport http linear-server https://mcp.linear.app/mcp
Then run /mcp inside Claude Code and finish the OAuth sign-in in your browser.
Cost and limits
The MCP server is free to use and Linear's docs do not tie it to a specific plan. You need a Linear workspace, and your plan's usual limits apply. Check Linear's pricing page for current details.
Safety notes
The default sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 and gives the agent your own permissions in every team you belong to. If the agent only needs to read tickets, connect to the read-only endpoint at https://mcp.linear.app/mcp/readonly or ask for just the read OAuth scope. You can also pass a Linear API key or an OAuth token in an Authorization: Bearer header instead of signing in interactively. Enterprise workspaces can manage MCP sign-in through Okta.
Pros
- Official, remote, OAuth
Cons
- Needs a Linear workspace
