About Stripe MCP

What it does

Stripe MCP is Stripe's official server for connecting AI agents to the Stripe API and to Stripe's documentation and support knowledge base. When you are building payments into an app, the agent can look up the right API method, check exact parameters and read Stripe's docs, then create products, prices, payment links or checkout sessions for testing. It can also answer questions about customers, invoices, subscriptions and disputes. Stripe hosts the server at https://mcp.stripe.com. The stripe/ai repository, which is MIT licensed, now mostly holds Stripe's SDKs for AI billing and its agent skills, and points to the hosted server for MCP.

Works with

It is a remote server, and any MCP client that supports HTTP can use it. Stripe's docs have setup steps for Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex and ChatGPT. There are also Stripe plugins for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Grok Build that set up the server and install Stripe's agent skills in one step.

How to connect

claude mcp add --transport http stripe https://mcp.stripe.com/

Then run /mcp to sign in with OAuth. Alternatively, install the plugin, which also adds Stripe's skills:

claude plugin install stripe@claude-plugins-official

Cost and limits

The MCP server is free. You need a Stripe account, and any real transactions it creates are charged at Stripe's normal fees.

Safety notes

Sign in with OAuth when your client supports it. Otherwise use a restricted API key with only the permissions the agent needs, never your full secret key. Do your building in a sandbox, not in live mode. Stripe asks for human confirmation before certain write actions, such as refunds and outbound payments. Admins can manage MCP access separately for live mode and sandboxes, and you can revoke OAuth sessions from the Dashboard. Stripe also recommends tool confirmation in your client, to guard against prompt injection.
