About Matt Pocock's Skills
What it does
Matt Pocock's Skills is the set of Agent Skills the TypeScript educator uses in his own daily engineering work. They are deliberately small and composable. Each one fixes a common way coding agents go wrong: misreading what you want, using too many words, writing code without feedback loops, or letting a codebase turn into a tangle. Frameworks such as BMAD or Spec-Kit try to own the whole process. These skills are meant to be adapted and mixed into your existing workflow instead.
What is inside
- Alignment:

Some skills run only when you type them. Others the agent can choose on its own when a task fits.
Works with
The skills use the open SKILL.md format and work with any model and any skills-compatible agent. Claude Code users can install them from the official plugin marketplace. Codex and other agents use the skills installer. A native Codex plugin is on the roadmap.
How to install
claude plugins install mattpocock-skills
For Codex and other agents, run npx skills@latest add mattpocock/skills instead. Then run /setup-matt-pocock-skills once per repository to choose your issue tracker, triage labels and docs location.
Maintenance and safety
The skills are MIT licensed and updated very frequently. They are instructions, not executable code, although some tell the agent to create issues on your tracker or finish git merges, so give it the permissions you are comfortable with. The plugin updates itself. The npx install copies files that you control.
Who should use it
Developers who want disciplined habits, such as interviews before building, test-driven development and attention to architecture, without adopting a heavy framework.
Pros
- Compact, well-reasoned skills grounded in classic engineering practice
- Available in Claude Code's official plugin marketplace
- Works with any skills-compatible agent via npx skills
Cons
- Engineering skills expect a one-time setup per repo and an issue tracker
- Opinionated workflow may not suit teams already on a framework
