About Understand Anything
What it does
Understand Anything turns a codebase into an interactive knowledge graph that you can browse, search and ask questions about. It is aimed at the moment you join a project with hundreds of thousands of lines and no map. The /understand command runs a multi-agent pipeline. Tree-sitter extracts the structure first: imports, exports, definitions, call sites and inheritance. An LLM then adds plain-English summaries, architectural layers, business domains and guided tours. The graph is saved as JSON in .ua/, so a team can commit it and share it without running the analysis again.
What is inside
/understand: builds the graph incrementally, can be limited to a subfolder, and can update itself on every commit through a post-commit hook/understand-dashboard: a local web dashboard coloured by layer, with fuzzy and semantic search/understand-chat,/understand-explainand/understand-onboard: questions, deep dives and onboarding guides/understand-diff: shows which parts of the graph your current changes affect/understand-domain: maps code to business processes/understand-knowledge: graphs a Markdown wiki- A standalone viewer that opens a committed graph without an LLM
- Output in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Russian
Works with
It is a native Claude Code plugin. An install script adds it to Codex, OpenCode, Antigravity, Gemini CLI, Cline, Trae, Kiro and more. Cursor and VS Code with GitHub Copilot detect it from a cloned repository, and Copilot CLI has its own plugin command.

Maintenance and safety
The project is MIT licensed, maintained by Egonex and updated regularly. The first full analysis can use a lot of tokens on big repositories. The README recommends a subscription plan or a local model such as Ollama. Your source code is sent to whichever model your agent uses. The curl-to-bash installer clones the repository and creates symlinks, so read it first. The auto-update option installs a git hook.
Who should use it
Developers onboarding onto unfamiliar or large codebases, and tech leads who want an architecture map they can share and review in pull requests.
Pros
- Tree-sitter structure plus LLM summaries and guided tours
- Shareable JSON graph with a standalone viewer
- Incremental updates and diff impact analysis
Cons
- Initial analysis can use many tokens on large repos
- Source code is sent to your agent's model
