About Superpowers
What it does
Superpowers, by Jesse Vincent and Prime Radiant, is a skills library that gives a coding agent a full development method rather than one-off tricks. When you start building something, the agent first asks what you are trying to achieve and shows the design in short sections for you to approve. Next it writes a detailed plan of small tasks. It then carries out the plan with subagents, using test-driven development and code review between tasks. A bootstrap skill makes the agent check for relevant skills before it acts, so the workflow starts on its own.
What is inside
The library includes the following skills:
- Testing: test-driven-development
- Debugging: systematic-debugging and verification-before-completion
- Collaboration: brainstorming, writing-plans, executing-plans, dispatching-parallel-agents, subagent-driven-development, requesting-code-review, receiving-code-review, using-git-worktrees and finishing-a-development-branch
- Meta: writing-skills and using-superpowers
Works with
The README documents installation for Claude Code, Codex (app and CLI), Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, OpenCode, Factory Droid, Devin CLI, Antigravity, Kimi Code, Grok Build CLI, Pi and Hermes Agent. You install it separately for each agent.
How to install
For Claude Code, install from the official marketplace:
/plugin install superpowers@claude-plugins-official
Or use the project's own marketplace:
/plugin marketplace add obra/superpowers-marketplace
/plugin install superpowers@superpowers-marketplace
For other agents, see the README.
Maintenance and safety
Superpowers is MIT licensed and very actively maintained. The optional visual companion in the brainstorming skill loads a logo from Prime Radiant's site, which reports the Superpowers version in use. You can turn this off with SUPERPOWERS_DISABLE_TELEMETRY, and it also respects Claude Code's telemetry opt-outs. The workflow creates git worktrees and branches and runs your tests.
Who should use it
Developers who want an agent to work like a careful engineer on multi-step features, and who are comfortable with a structured process. For tiny edits the brainstorm-plan-test cycle can feel heavy, and the skills take some time to learn.
Pros
- Encodes a disciplined engineering workflow
- Very popular and actively maintained
- Works beyond Claude Code
Cons
- Opinionated process can slow down tiny tasks
- Lots of skills to learn at first
