What it does

pi-subagents, by Nico Bailon, is an extension for the Pi coding agent that lets it delegate work to focused child agents. The parent Pi session starts a child with its own job, then brings the result back. Children can run in the foreground and stream into the conversation, or in the background in a detached runner that keeps working after control returns to you. You ask for delegation in plain language, and Pi decides whether to call the subagent tool and which agent to use.

What is inside

It ships ready-made agents: scout for codebase reconnaissance, researcher and evidence-auditor for sourced web research, worker for implementation, reviewer for code review, oracle for a second opinion that does not edit files, and a lightweight delegate. Prompt shortcuts such as /parallel-review and /review-loop make common patterns repeatable, and /council compares a decision across several models. A FleetView panel and a /subagents-fleet inspector show running children, transcripts and controls to steer or stop them. Further documentation covers custom agents, per-role model choice, worktree isolation, an opt-in watchdog reviewer, scheduled missions and an extension API.

This is a Pi extension only. Pi is not one of the apps listed in this directory, so none of the listed apps can use it directly.

Maintenance and safety

MIT licensed and updated very frequently, with extensive docs and a /subagents-doctor command for setup checks. Installing it does not start any automatic reviewer; it only adds a delegation tool. A spawn budget limits how many children one run can create. Parallel reviewers multiply token use, so set model tiers deliberately.

Who should use it

Pi users who want review loops, second opinions or parallel audits without writing their own orchestration. Users of other agents should look for a native subagent feature in their own tool instead.
