What it does

Awesome Claude Code Subagents, maintained by the team behind the VoltAgent framework, is a curated catalogue of more than 160 Claude Code subagents. Each subagent is a Markdown file with a focused role, a description that tells Claude when to delegate to it, a list of allowed tools and a preferred model. The aim is to give you specialists you can drop into a project instead of writing system prompts from scratch.

What is inside / how it works

Agents are grouped into ten categories: core development, language specialists, infrastructure, quality and security, data and AI, developer experience, specialised domains, business and product, meta-orchestration, and research and analysis. Each category is also published as a Claude Code plugin, such as voltagent-lang for languages or voltagent-infra for DevOps. Tool access is deliberately narrow: reviewers and auditors get read-only tools, researchers get web search, and only code-writing agents get edit and shell access. A model field routes deep-reasoning agents to Opus, everyday coding to Sonnet and quick jobs to Haiku, and you can change it to inherit. The repo also ships a subagent-catalog command set for searching and fetching agents from inside Claude Code.

Works with

The files follow Claude Code's subagent format and are installed into ~/.claude/agents/ (global) or .claude/agents/ (per project). The README does not document support for other coding agents.

How to install or start

The recommended route is the plugin marketplace:

You can also clone the repo and copy individual agent files, or run the bundled interactive install-agents.sh script to pick and remove agents.

Pricing

Free and open source under the MIT licence. The README carries sponsor placements, but the agents themselves have no cost beyond your model usage.

Who should use it

Claude Code users who want to browse by category and install only a handful of relevant specialists. Quality and depth vary between community-contributed agents, so read a file before relying on it, and note that the meta-orchestration agents work best when other categories are installed as well.
