About Figma MCP Server

What it does

Figma's official MCP server gives a coding agent structured design context from your Figma files. That context includes layout, variables and styles, components, screenshots and, if you use Code Connect, the matching components in your codebase. The generated UI then follows the real design and your design system, instead of a rough guess from a screenshot. Communication also goes the other way: the remote server can write to the Figma canvas, create files, turn Mermaid into FigJam diagrams and capture a live web UI as editable design layers.

Works with

The remote server at https://mcp.figma.com/mcp is the version Figma recommends and has the most features. It only accepts clients in Figma's MCP catalog. The docs list Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and Xcode, and the help centre mentions others such as Gemini CLI, Copilot CLI and Android Studio. A desktop server at http://127.0.0.1:3845/mcp runs through the Figma desktop app and has fewer tools.

Cost and limits

At the time of writing (September 2026), Figma says the remote server works with all seats and plans, but it is rate-limited. View and Collab seats, and the Starter plan, get only a few tool calls a month. Dev and Full seats on paid plans get daily and per-minute limits, which rise on Organization and Enterprise plans. The desktop server needs a Dev or Full seat on a paid plan. Figma describes writing to the canvas as a beta that is currently free. Check Figma's rate-limit page for current numbers.

Safety notes

You connect with OAuth in the browser, and the server acts with your Figma permissions. That includes write tools on the remote server, which can change files. Review canvas edits before you share them.
