About Framelink Figma MCP
What it does
Framelink MCP for Figma, published on npm as figma-developer-mcp, is an open-source community server that helps a coding agent build a design from Figma. You paste a link to a Figma file, frame or group into the chat. The server then fetches that node through the official Figma REST API. It strips the raw response down to the layout and styling details that matter before handing it to the model. Less noise means fewer tokens and, according to the author, better results than working from a pasted screenshot. It was built with Cursor in mind but works in any MCP client. The project is MIT licensed and is not made by Figma.
Tools it gives your agent
get_figma_data: fetches the simplified layout, styles and structure of a file or a specific nodedownload_figma_images: saves image fills and exported SVG or PNG assets from the design into your project
Works with
It runs locally through Node.js over stdio, or as an HTTP server if you set a port. Framelink's site names Cursor, Claude Code, VS Code, Codex and OpenCode, and any MCP client that can start an npx command should work. It only reads from Figma: unlike Figma's own remote server, it cannot write to the canvas.
How to connect
Add this to your client's MCP config, replacing the placeholder with your Figma personal access token:
{
"mcpServers": {
"Framelink MCP for Figma": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "figma-developer-mcp", "--figma-api-key=YOUR-KEY", "--stdio"]
}
}
}
On Windows, the README wraps the command in cmd /c. You can also pass the key through the FIGMA_API_KEY environment variable instead of a flag.
Cost and limits
The server is free. It uses your own Figma personal access token, so Figma's REST API rate limits for your account apply. Framelink's website says extra features are coming and has an early-access list, but at the time of writing (September 2026) it listed no prices.
Safety notes
A Figma personal access token can read every file your account can see. Give it only the scopes it needs, set an expiry date, and keep it out of committed config files. Framelink collects usage telemetry by default through PostHog. Turn it off by setting FRAMELINK_TELEMETRY=off or DO_NOT_TRACK.
Pros
- Free with a Figma API token
- Simplified output saves tokens
Cons
- Community project
