About MeiGen AI Design MCP
What it does
MeiGen is an MCP server that gives an AI coding agent direct access to image and video generation tools, plus a library of over 1,400 curated prompts, so an agent can produce app assets, marketing images, or product shots without leaving the chat.
Tools it gives your agent

Pricing
Browsing tools (gallery search, inspiration, model listing) work without an API key. Actual generation calls need a MeiGen API key and consume MeiGen credits, or route to your own local ComfyUI instance for free. MeiGen does not publish per-credit or plan pricing on its public pages, so budget by testing your own generation volume against whatever balance your API key starts with.
Maintenance and safety
MIT licensed with roughly 1,800 GitHub stars, 232 forks, and 140 commits on main - active but still a young project. Generation calls route to MeiGen Cloud (GPT Image 2, Seedance, Midjourney, Flux and others), OpenAI-compatible endpoints, or a local ComfyUI instance, so credential/credit handling depends on which backend you point it at.
Who should use it
Teams that want an agent-callable image/video pipeline for building app assets or marketing creative, especially anyone already running local ComfyUI who wants the free path instead of buying MeiGen credits.
Pros
- Wide tool surface: image/video generation, background removal, product-shot and marketing-poster generation, upscaling, and a searchable inspiration gallery
- Free tier works without an API key (gallery search, inspiration lookup, model browsing); local ComfyUI backend avoids paid credits entirely
- Ships install paths for several hosts: npx installer, a Claude Code plugin, and a Codex MCP-add command
Cons
- Paid generation tools require a purchased MeiGen API key and credits; some bundled skills only work through MeiGen Cloud
- Young project (140 commits) so its 14-cloud-tool surface and pricing are more likely to change than an established MCP server
