About Prompt Master
What it does
Prompt Master is a Claude skill that writes and refines prompts for other AI tools, including the coding agents you use to build software. You describe what you want and the skill produces one clean, copyable prompt aimed at the right target. It runs a structured pipeline on each request: it detects which tool the prompt is for, extracts the intent along several dimensions, asks up to three clarifying questions when something critical is missing, picks a suitable prompt framework, and runs a token-efficiency pass to cut words that do not change the output. Each result comes with a one-line note on the target, framework and strategy.
What it does
- Detects the destination and routes to a matching approach, then applies a fitting template (it ships more than a dozen, such as role/task/format, file-scope for code editors, and a stop-condition pattern for autonomous agents)
- Extracts task, input, output, constraints, context, audience, memory, success criteria and examples before writing
- Asks focused clarifying questions rather than guessing, and can also adapt a prompt you paste in
- Includes tool profiles for coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Copilot, Cline, Codex, Devin, Bolt, v0, Lovable) alongside profiles for chat, image, video and automation tools, with a fallback questionnaire for anything unseen
Works with
It is a Claude skill, so it loads in Claude and Claude Code. The prompts it writes are aimed at a wide range of targets; its most relevant profiles for this audience are the coding agents and IDE assistants.
How to install
The recommended path is claude.ai: download the repository as a ZIP and upload it under Customize, Skills. For Claude Code:
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
git clone https://github.com/nidhinjs/prompt-master.git ~/.claude/skills/prompt-master
Maintenance and safety
MIT-licensed and recently updated. It is a single self-contained skill that only generates text, so there is little to run or trust beyond the prompt it returns. Some of its headline claims (for example about wasting zero tokens) are marketing shorthand rather than measured figures.
Who should use it
People who want sharper first-attempt prompts for their coding agent or IDE assistant, and anyone who regularly writes prompts across several tools and wants a consistent structure. It is broad by design, covering many non-coding targets too.
Pros
- Structured pipeline: detects the target, asks focused questions, trims tokens
- Profiles for Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex and other coding tools
- Ships more than a dozen prompt frameworks selected automatically
Cons
- Broad scope covers many non-coding targets you may not need
- Some headline claims are marketing shorthand, not measured figures
