About Skills Manager
What it does
Skills Manager is a free desktop app for keeping one library of Agent Skills and sharing it with all the coding tools on your machine. Without it, you end up with separate copies of the same skill in each tool's own folder, such as ~/.claude/skills or ~/.codex/skills, and they drift apart. Skills Manager keeps each skill in a single central folder and links it into each tool's skill directory. You can turn a skill on or off per tool without deleting it, and edits appear everywhere at once. It detects about thirty common AI coding tools, and you can add custom tools with their own paths.
What is inside
- Library view with a Monaco editor for writing and editing skills
- Per-tool switches backed by symlinks. On Windows it uses directory junctions or tracked copies, without needing administrator rights.
- Marketplace for browsing and installing community skills
- AI translation of skill names, descriptions and content through an LLM you configure
- Command palette and an English and Chinese interface
skmCLI:init, adopt, list, enable, disable, doctorandfix, for servers without a screen and for dotfiles scripts. It also installs a companion skill so agents can runskmthemselves.
Works with
The app manages skill folders for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Windsurf, Trae, Cline, Augment, Goose and other tools that read the standard SKILL.md format. It runs on macOS, Windows and Linux.
How to install
Download an installer from the website or GitHub Releases, or use Homebrew on macOS:
brew tap jiweiyeah/tap
brew install --cask jiweiyeah/tap/skills-manager
Maintenance and safety
The app is MIT licensed, built with Tauri and Rust, and updated regularly. It only manages files and links in your tool configuration folders. skm adopt moves existing skills into the central library, so back them up first. The macOS build is not notarised by Apple, and the Homebrew cask removes the quarantine flag during install. The README explains how to opt out. Marketplace skills are community content, so review them before enabling.
Who should use it
Developers who use several AI coding tools and want one place to write, sync and switch skills on and off.
Pros
- One source of truth for skills across many tools
- Per-tool enable/disable without deleting files
- Headless skm CLI for scripts and servers
Cons
- macOS build is not notarised; the cask strips quarantine
- Small project; marketplace skills are unvetted community content
