About skilld
What it does
skilld, by Harlan Wilton, is a registry and command-line tool for Agent Skills written by real maintainers in their own GitHub repositories. Its angle is provenance: every listed skill links to its source file and author, and the CLI records the commit it came from, so you can read a skill before your agent follows it and see when it has changed upstream.
What is inside
skilld search finds skills, and skilld run prints a skill's SKILL.md to stdout for one session without writing any files or executing its scripts. skilld install writes the skill into each detected agent's folder and records it in a lockfile; add installs every skill from a repository, curator or collection. outdated, update, verify and remove keep installs current. Hosted delivery builds an immutable artifact from an exact commit, and the CLI checks its digest and attestation before writing anything; a --direct mode fetches public GitHub skills without the service and marks them unverified. The project also maintains skills for using the CLI, drafting skills for a package or project, and reviewing a skill before publishing. The CLI is a native Rust binary distributed through npm.
Works with
Skills installed with skilld use the open Agent Skills format. The CLI detects targets such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Kiro and Zed, and accepts explicit --agent flags.
How to install
npx skilld search vue
npx skilld run antfu/skills/vue
npm install --global skilld
Maintenance and safety
MIT licensed and actively developed, with a security document explaining its checks. The CLI sends no telemetry; search, run and hosted installs call the skilld.dev API. Verified status only proves provenance, not that a skill's instructions are good, as the README itself says. The native installer upgrades itself in the background unless you set SKILLD_NO_UPGRADE=1.
Who should use it
Developers who use skills across several agents and want to know who wrote each one, read it first and keep it updated, rather than copying folders by hand.
Pros
- Run a skill once without writing files
- Commit-pinned installs with digest and attestation checks
- One command targets many agents
Cons
- Hosted installs depend on the skilld.dev service
- Verified status proves provenance, not skill quality
