What is Google Antigravity?

What it is

Google Antigravity is Google's agentic development platform. It started as an agent-first IDE and has grown into a family of products: Antigravity 2.0, a command centre for running several local agents in parallel; the Antigravity IDE, a full editor with an agent manager and artefact support; the Antigravity CLI for terminal work; an SDK for building custom agents on Antigravity's harness; and IDE extensions. Agents can run autonomously, execute shell commands, manage background subagents and drive a browser to test front-end work, then report back with artefacts such as plans and screenshots.

At Google I/O on 19 May 2026 Google consolidated its developer tools under the Antigravity brand. The Antigravity CLI, a faster rewrite that shares Antigravity 2.0's agent harness, replaced Gemini CLI for free users, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and individual Gemini Code Assist users on 18 June 2026. It is available to everyone from antigravity.google/download.

Key features

  • Manager view for running and supervising many agents across workspaces
  • Browser-in-the-loop automation for testing what the agent builds
  • Artefacts that make agent plans and results reviewable
  • Terminal CLI and SDK alongside the IDE
  • Built around Google's Gemini models

Skills, subagents and MCP

Antigravity reads AGENTS.md and GEMINI.md as rules, loads Agent Skills from SKILL.md folders, supports background subagents and hooks, and connects to MCP servers. Gemini CLI extensions carry over as Antigravity plugins, and Google publishes a migration guide for moving skills, hooks and subagents from Gemini CLI. Its older Workflows feature is being retired in favour of skills by 1 November 2026.

Pricing

Google describes Antigravity as available at no charge for individual developers, with metered free quotas. Higher limits come through Google AI subscriptions (Pro, and Ultra tiers with higher rate limits). Enterprise plans exist; check the official site for current quotas, since free-tier limits have changed several times.

Who it is for

Developers who want to run many agents in parallel and see what they are doing, front-end builders who benefit from browser testing, people already paying for Google AI, and former Gemini CLI users on personal accounts.

Verdict

Antigravity is now the centre of Google's coding tools and one of the most ambitious multi-agent environments, with skills, hooks, plugins, subagents and MCP. It is still young, features and limits change quickly, and it works best with Gemini models.
